Devotions for Life

Stuck In Traffic Again!

“A prudent man sees evil and hides himself, The naive proceed and pay the penalty” (Prov 27:12 NAS).

Recently, I traveled to LA; it took only 3 ½ hours. Then later on Friday it took 5 ½ hours to travel the same distance. What made the difference? You guessed it. Traffic and bad timing! We returned home on Saturday and I figured the traffic would be lighter. No! Again it took over five hours with bumper to bumper traffic almost half the distance.

How Do You See People?

Ponder: Love people, use things.

Scripture: “This man is not from God, because He does not keep the Sabbath” (John 9:16, NKJV).

Different people responded in a variety of ways to the man Jesus healed of life-long blindness (John 9). The disciples treated him as an object of religious discussion, wondering whose sin caused him to be born blind. The neighbors saw him as something spectacular to wonder about and discuss. Rather than rejoicing with him, for some unexplained reason they took him to the Pharisees. Did these self-styled experts in the Law of Moses tell him how glad they were that he could see? No, they saw him as a question of lawfulness and an object to be used to lash out at Jesus.

Around the Cross

Matthew 27:32 (ASV)

“And as they came out, they found a man of Cyrene, Simon by name: him they compelled to go with them, that he might bear his cross.”

“What would you do?” That’s the name of a TV program where unusual circumstances are played by actors to see what those that are watching this terrible situation unfold do or perhaps not do.What would you do, if you were watching this terrible act unfold on our Lord and Savior? Would you just stand by and watch and be concerned, but not enough to get involved. Not enough to help Jesus.Like Simon, would you have to be compelled to help out in a very distressful situation?

Mark 8:34 (ASV)

“And he called unto him the multitude with his disciples, and said unto them, If any man would come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me.”

Are we truly committed to taking up the cross and following Jesus? Or perhaps just helping out someone in need. We have opportunities every day to reach out and give a helping hand. But are our lives so busy that someone has to compel us to help out. Let’s look around and take up someone’s cross today and lend a helping hand.Around the Cross we see? What does Jesus see in you around the Cross?

SONG: “Not a Step Will I Take Without Jesus”

Prayer: Father, I pray that as I see my fellow man hurting and in need that I will show compassion and not be compelled by guilt to reach out and help. Help me take up the Cross and follow Jesus. In His Name – Amen
