Unpleasant Tasks

“Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with all your might; for there is no activity or planning or
knowledge or wisdom in Sheol where you are going” (Eccl 9:10).
Nobody said everything in life would be easy. Sometimes an unpleasant task confronts us.
Personally, my natural tendency is to delay those duties. But procrastination never
accomplishes the job. In most cases, it merely multiplies the misery.

Lessons From A Crow

Ponder: What can we learn from other living things?
Scripture: “The ox knows its owner, and the donkey his master’s crib; but Israel does not know,
My people do not consider” (Isaiah 1:3, NKJV).
Edgar Allan Poe would have loved it. While I worked with two different congregations,
crows have landed in front of the church building and “rapped at my chamber door.” Actually,
one rapped on a glass door, and the other on a window, but that’s close enough. In each place,
the crow thought his own reflection was a rival crow, so he pecked, jumped, and flapped at it.
This made it appear that his own reflection was attacking him, which perpetuated the rather
comical activity. Do our feathered friends have anything to teach us? I think so . . .

Then the priests carried the Ark of the LORD’s Covenant into the inner sanctuary of the Temple—
the Most Holy Place—and placed it beneath the wings of the cherubim. The cherubim spread their wings over the Ark, forming a canopy over the Ark and its carrying poles. These poles were so long
that their ends could be seen from the Temple’s main room—the Holy Place—but not from the outside.
