Devotions for Life

Luke 23:40-43

“But the other answering rebuked him, saying, Dost not thou fear God, seeing thou art in the same condemnation? 41 And we indeed justly; for we receive the due reward of our deeds: but this man hath done nothing amiss. 42 And he said unto Jesus, Lord, remember me when thou comest into thy kingdom. 43 And Jesus said unto him, Verily I say unto thee, to day shalt thou be with me in paradise.”

As we look at Jesus as he hangs on the cross having been railed by the other thief on the cross, now He hears the words, “Lord, remember me when thou comest into thy kingdom,”, must have been such a joy to our Lord’s heart. This thief rebukes the other thief as they both look at Jesus. What a contrast of two men, both thieves and both are due the reward, or we should say, the punishment, that they deserved for their acts. Yet this thief fully understands that the one hanging between them does not deserve to be on that cross. This thief at least had the understanding that Jesus was going to have his Kingdom and he wanted to be a part.

Sin Is Never A Virtue

“Woe to those who call evil good, and good evil; Who substitute darkness for light and light for darkness; Who substitute bitter for sweet and sweet for bitter!” (Isaiah 5:20).

It was Mark Twain who, tongue in cheek, said, “A crime persevered in a thousand centuries ceases to be a crime, and becomes a virtue”  There has never been a time when Isaiah’s words are as true as it is today. From the sexual revolution of the 60’s, and several generations of kids raised by those who succumbed to those troublous years, we are reaping the whirlwind of judgment from the Lord. Just as God gave up Paul’s pagan generation because it chose not to have God in their knowledge, God has allowed our generation to become destined for judgment.

What Does God Look Like 3

“Beloved, let us love one another, for love is from God; and everyone who loves is born of God and knows God” (I John 4:7).

John tells us that love is from God and those who love know God. We are to love one another. What does godly love look like? We are going to go to I Corinthians 13:4-8a and look at the characteristics of love.
