Devotions for Life

Esteem (3)

Ponder: How can I feel good about myself again?
Scripture: “. . . and have put on the new man who is renewed in knowledge according to the image of Him who created him” (Colossians 3:10, NKJV).
Though we are made in God’s image, our self esteem is diminished by our sin. Being against God’s nature, sin mars the divine image we bear.

Never Alone

“Teaching them to observe all that I commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age” (Mt. 28:20).

To experience the presence of the God of love, we must expect to experience Him everywhere, for His love is that which shines from the eyes of new mothers, in the grandparent’s sense of pride, and through the expressions of love felt by the neighbors no longer treated as strangers, or in friends once considered enemies.

I Am Nothing

“Are not five sparrows sold for two cents? Yet not one of them is forgotten before God. Indeed, the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Do not fear; you are more valuable than many sparrows” (Luke 12:6-7).
I just finished a short story titled, “I Am Nothing.” It got me thinking about non-believers and even some Christians who believe that they are of no consequence. I think of people who take their own lives because they feel that they are nothing. The Aurora Theater shooter felt that to be more than nothing, he had to kill people.
