Devotions for Life

“[F]or it is God who is at work in you, both to will and to work for His good pleasure” (Phil 2:13).
We know God cares for us, and will answer our prayers. These are promises. We know that He carries out His plans, and is actively involved in our lives. He is not the Deist’s God who created everything, set laws in place, and stood back at a distance to see how everything works out. Jesus said, “My Father is working until now, and I Myself am working” (John 5:17).

Esteem (3)

Ponder: How can I feel good about myself again?
Scripture: “. . . and have put on the new man who is renewed in knowledge according to the image of Him who created him” (Colossians 3:10, NKJV).
Though we are made in God’s image, our self esteem is diminished by our sin. Being against God’s nature, sin mars the divine image we bear.

Never Alone

“Teaching them to observe all that I commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age” (Mt. 28:20).

To experience the presence of the God of love, we must expect to experience Him everywhere, for His love is that which shines from the eyes of new mothers, in the grandparent’s sense of pride, and through the expressions of love felt by the neighbors no longer treated as strangers, or in friends once considered enemies.
