Restraining The Madness

(2 Pet. 2:16)
Read: Gen. 3:9-13
Today’s Bible Thought: “And they all began to make excuses” (Lk. 14:18 NIV).
Dr. William Glasser says that no matter how irrational or inadequate one’s behavior may seem to us, it has meaning and validity to the troubled person. One’s behavior is his attempt to solve his basic problem of fulfilling his needs. But there is no success because of one common characteristic among all disturbed people: “they all deny the reality of the world around them” (Reality Therapy, p. 6). The reality of God is equally denied by those who show little control over their behavior. Man seeks to find excuses where there is none – outside of himself.

Able To Stand

“We know that we are from God, and the whole world lies in the power of the evil one” (1 John 5:19 ESV).
Faith, obedience and love are three great tests of where we stand in the eyes of God. Without faith, we cannot be pleasing to him (Heb. 11:6). Obedience to his will is the only way to obtain the eternal salvation we seek (Heb. 5:7-9; 2 Thess. 1:7-9). Without love permeating our entire being we will never be able to stand approved before God (Mark 12:29-31; 2 Peter 1:22).

The Kindness Of God Leads Us To Repent

“Or do you show contempt for the riches of his kindness, tolerance and patience, not realizing that God’s kindness leads you toward repentance?” (Rom 2:4 NIV).
An atheist said to a Christian,  “How can you believe in a God with all the evil in the world?” The Christian replied, “How can you not believe in a God with all the good in the world?”
Is this just one of those situations where you can find enough evidence to convince us to believe what we want? Maybe, but I doubt it. The reason? I can understand a world without a god with all the evil, but without god why would there be any good at all. There’s no basis for morality. Plus, there would be no reason for anything but the survival of the fittest. The only law would be the law of the jungle.
