A Stubborn Heart

Exodus 8:1-19

“This is the finger of God!” the magicians exclaimed to Pharaoh. But Pharaoh’s heart remained hard. He wouldn’t listen to them, just as the LORD had predicted. (Exodus 8:19)

Reflect
It’s tempting to believe, “If only I could see a miracle, I could believe in God.” For Pharaoh, each plague was a second chance to believe. When gnats infested Egypt, even the magicians agreed that this was God’s work—“the finger of God”—but still Pharaoh refused to believe.

Is my work useless?

Deuteronomy 28:15–29:1

You will go mad because of all the tragedy you see around you. (Deuteronomy 28:34)

Reflect
Do you ever feel that you will go crazy if you hear about one more rape, kidnapping, murder, or war? The barrage of bad news can leave us feeling powerless and despondent. Much of the world’s evil is a result of people’s failure to acknowledge and obey God. One of the curses God promised for those who disobeyed him was that they would go mad from seeing so much tragedy.

A Healthy Faith

Today’s Verse: “I am writing to you, little children, because your sins have been forgiven you for His name’s sake” (1 John 2:12 NASU).

How would you describe a healthy faith? First, let’s see what a healthy faith is not.

In extreme cases, some believe God tells them to do horrible things. A few years back a lawyer killed his family to save them “for fear they were straying from their religion.” He said he shot them execution style, and then knelt and said prayers for them.
