Devotions for Life

“Foot Fetish”

“Lord are You going to wash my feet?” (Jn. 13:6).
Although I didn’t remember the reason for it, I do know my mother took great pains bathing both my ears and feet. It may have been that I was active outdoors, a little hard of hearing, or she was concerned about a poor boy’s looks in church, for it was her habit to check them out. To her credit, it paid off since my feet have withstood the devastation of years of diabetes.

Smiling Herod

Luke 23:11

“And Herod with his men of war set him at naught, and mocked him, and arrayed him in a gorgeous robe, and sent him again to Pilate.”

No, Herod may not have actually been standing around the cross, but by his actions, he had a hand in sending Jesus to the cross. We can just picture the scene: Herod laughing, putting a fancy robe on Jesus and simply making fun of our master.

Seeking Love

For the Son of Man has come to seek and save that which was lost” (Luke 19:10).

The apostle John in his letters tells us plainly, and over and over, that God is love. Jesus taught and went to great pains so that we could grasp what kind of love God is. God is a seeking love.
