Devotions for Life

“For God is not unrighteous to forget your work and the love which you showed toward his name, in that you ministered unto the saints, and still do minister” (Hebrews 6:10).

Every year a yard on our street is filled with many varieties of gorgeous flowers. They bloom from early spring through fall. The family living there did not plant them. Jane did. Her yard was her life’s work and joy. Every day, while she was living, one could see her stooped frame bent lovingly over those flowers, weeding, watering, and fertilizing. That yard filled with flowers is her legacy.

Going Along With The Crowd

“Do not follow the crowd in doing wrong. (Ex 23:2a NIV)

In Istanbul, Turkey, in 2005, one sheep jumped off a cliff and then nearly 1,500 others followed. In the end, about one-third of them died.

Accept One Another

Today’s scripture: Romans 15:7 – “Therefore, accept one another just as Christ also accepted us to the glory of God.”

Hidden away in Romans 15 are some writings that we may have a tendency to skip over on occasion; Romans 15:7 is one of those. This command seems secondary to such other passages in Romans. However, it seems to me that this verse is the embodiment of the theology Paul carefully constructs in the first half of Romans. It answers the question, “What does theology look like?” This verse touches so many themes throughout Romans; for instance, let’s consider “grace.”
