Devotions for Life

An Inaugural Day

“And the book of the prophet Isaiah was handed to Him and He opened the book. . .” (LK. 4:18).

Sabbath day in the synagogue, the day Jesus was to present His program, having been chosen to read, much as a leader of the USA is called upon every four years. It was the second year of Jesus’ ministry. His “Inaugural Day.”

Looking the Other Way

Text: “And there is no creature that is not manifest in his sight: but all things are naked and laid open before the eyes of him with whom we have to do” (Hebrews 4:13).
A speaker, telling her audience about produce and marketing, opened with the following statement: “I’m going to give you some of the secrets about how we make you buy what we want you to buy. . . . as a marketer my job is to make you want it, to crave it, to need it, to think that it is the best innovation in food since sliced bread.”We are aware of marketing strategies but are we aware of why we fall for them? The speaker, in her closing remarks, tells us why. “We only get away with it because everyone is prepared to look the other way.”

Will You Trust Me?

“Do not let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God, trust also in Me” (John 14:1 NIV).

When we hurt, when we are depressed, when circumstances grind us down, or when we face loss, we look upward and cry, “WHY?” This is normal. Read Psalms and look at the number of times that David, a man after God’s own heart, cried, “Why?”
