The Prayer Of Our High Priest # 10

“I do not ask You to take them out of the world, but to keep them from the evil one (John 17:15).
Jesus does not ask the Father to take His believers out of the world, but to keep us from the evil one. Today many believers discount Satan. While it is true that he isn’t all knowing, all powerful, or everywhere, Satan does attempt to lead believers away from Jesus.

By Your Words

“And I say to you, that every careless word that men speak, they shall render account for in the Day of Judgment” (Mt. 12:36).
During the period I regularly substituted in the Central Coast churches of California, I enjoyed speaking on the subject of “luck,” and other misuses of language heard in today’s media. One congregation retitled the monthly “pot luck” dinners to “pot providence” dinners, which in simple English rejects the luck word as part of their Christian vocabulary.

Skewed Values

Text: “For it is not the one who commends himself who is approved, but the one whom the Lord commends” (2 Corinthians 10:18).
Someone noted, in a recent article that I was reading, that “we live in a world with skewed values, false promises and fleeting fame.” And, really, I suppose that just about sums it up. I mean, let’s face it, most of us are stuck on ourselves. Example: You are in a group picture. You are looking at the print. Be honest now, who do you look at first?
