Accept One Another

Today’s scripture: Romans 15:7 – “Therefore, accept one another just as Christ also accepted us to the glory of God.”

Hidden away in Romans 15 are some writings that we may have a tendency to skip over on occasion; Romans 15:7 is one of those. This command seems secondary to such other passages in Romans. However, it seems to me that this verse is the embodiment of the theology Paul carefully constructs in the first half of Romans. It answers the question, “What does theology look like?” This verse touches so many themes throughout Romans; for instance, let’s consider “grace.”

The Prayer Of Our High Priest # 10

“I do not ask You to take them out of the world, but to keep them from the evil one (John 17:15).
Jesus does not ask the Father to take His believers out of the world, but to keep us from the evil one. Today many believers discount Satan. While it is true that he isn’t all knowing, all powerful, or everywhere, Satan does attempt to lead believers away from Jesus.

By Your Words

“And I say to you, that every careless word that men speak, they shall render account for in the Day of Judgment” (Mt. 12:36).
During the period I regularly substituted in the Central Coast churches of California, I enjoyed speaking on the subject of “luck,” and other misuses of language heard in today’s media. One congregation retitled the monthly “pot luck” dinners to “pot providence” dinners, which in simple English rejects the luck word as part of their Christian vocabulary.
