Devotions for Life

“Freedom Isn’t Free”

“. . . of whom the world was not worthy” (Heb. 11:38a NASU).
We, as Americans, enjoy freedoms that so many in the world only dream about. We have these freedoms because someone paid the price for that freedom – freedom is not free; it comes with a price.
In the Bible, we discover the words “remember,” “remembrance,” and “memorial” are found more than 200 times (depending on the translation). God reminded his children in the Old Testament to remember that they were once slaves in Egypt. He told them to remember many significant events. In the New Testament we’re told to remember the death of Christ each Lord’s Day as we observe the Lord’s Supper.

One Way

Jesus said unto him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life: no one comes unto the Father, but by me” (John 14:6).
A few days ago, a news story told of a driver going the wrong way on the freeway. You can guess what happened. He hit another driver head-on, and he was killed. Later, the authorities determined that the wrong-way driver was impaired by drug use.

The Prayer Of The High Priest # 7

“They are not of the world, even as I am not of the world” (John 17:16).
Jesus demonstrated a loyalty to a higher government. The Father was above the Jewish nation, above the Jewish court, and above the Roman government. Jesus never left any doubt where His allegiance lay.
