Stop Sign

“There is therefore now no condemnation to them that are in Christ Jesus” (Romans 8:1).
Have you ever run a stop sign? I have. I don’t remember where my mind was, but I didn’t even see it. Luckily, I did not cause an accident, and there was no policeman nearby to give me a ticket. If a policeman had seen me, he probably would have given me a ticket, no matter my excuse.
The law of the Old Testament was a stop sign. If one broke any part of it, he was guilty of breaking the whole law (James 2:10). He had to pay the penalty.

The Prayer Of Our High Priest #5

“I am no longer in the world; and yet they themselves are in the world, and I come to You. Holy Father, keep them in Your name, the name which You have given Me, that they may be one even as We are. While I was with them, I was keeping them in Your name which You have given Me; and I guarded them and not one of them perished but the son of perdition, so that Scripture would be fulfilled” (John 17:11-12).

In a few hours Jesus faces a horrible death, yet He is concerned with His disciples more than Himself at this point.

On This I Stand

“But the Lord stood with me and strengthened me” (2 Tim. 4:19).
Have any trouble walking? Do you lose your balance? Is there pain in standing? I’ve taken as jokes all the witticisms, and digs concerning my use of a cane as a preacher. For as long as I can stand, and am called upon to present God’s word, the wisecracks mean little to me.
