Salvation By What?

Scripture: “For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast” (Ephesians 2:8, 9, NKJV).
Can you work hard enough, long enough, to earn salvation? Many have tried; none have succeeded. The Bible says salvation is by God’s grace (see Ephesians 2:8, 9). You can no more earn your salvation than you can extract yourself from a pool of quicksand by tugging on your boot straps!

A Deep Running Anger

“And Moses anger burned” (Ex. 32:19).
It is common in study and reading to find instances in which the assumed leaders of biblical men and women displayed characteristics we might say, “Are just like me.” Each is a reminder of how all men sin, how we somehow model ourselves after another’s conduct, and how disciples either grow or fall away.

What’s Missing?

“Looking at him, Jesus felt a love for him and said to him, ‘One thing you lack: go and sell all you possess and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow Me'” (Mark 10:21).
The rich young ruler came to Jesus and asked “What good thing can I do to inherit eternal life?” Jesus told him to keep the commandments and the young man claimed he kept the commandments from his childhood. This implied he felt he lacked something, “What’s missing?” Jesus told him that he was lacking in one thing, and if he wanted to be perfect to go, and sell what he had and give it to the poor and follow him. The young man went away sorrowfully because he was a wealthy man.
