Devotions for Life

What’s Missing?

“Looking at him, Jesus felt a love for him and said to him, ‘One thing you lack: go and sell all you possess and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow Me'” (Mark 10:21).
The rich young ruler came to Jesus and asked “What good thing can I do to inherit eternal life?” Jesus told him to keep the commandments and the young man claimed he kept the commandments from his childhood. This implied he felt he lacked something, “What’s missing?” Jesus told him that he was lacking in one thing, and if he wanted to be perfect to go, and sell what he had and give it to the poor and follow him. The young man went away sorrowfully because he was a wealthy man.

Spring Or Winter

“God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble” (Psalm 46:1).
For the last two weeks, our temperatures were seventy to eighty degrees during the day. Robins played in the yard, and tulips and daffodils spread their brilliant colors. I pulled dandelions out of our grass and gathered seeds for planting. Spring is here!
Today it is cold, we have three inches of snow on the ground, and the snow is still coming. The sky looks like it could snow all day. The weather forecasters say we might get six or more inches. What happened to spring?

My brother in Christ, and friend, Robert Holland, shared with me the follow incident and observation:

“In the 1941 landmark motion picture, ‘Citizen Kane,’ Orson Welles/Charles Foster Kane is being interviewed by a young reporter. During the interview, the reporter makes a comment and Kane replies, ‘Don’t believe everything you hear on the radio.’
