Devotions for Life

Be A Friend – Have A Friend

Text: “Many will say they are loyal friends, but who can find one who is truly reliable” (Proverbs 20:6)?

I read, recently, about the discovery of two bodies. Identical twin brothers were found, inside their home, in their recliners. It is unusual that two brothers would be deceased at the same time but even more unusual is that their bodies were not discovered for about three years!

The Hour Is Come

“These things spake Jesus; and lifting up his eyes to heaven, he said, Father, the hour is come; glorify thy Son, that the Son may glorify thee” (John 17:1).

The seventeenth chapter of the gospel of John is the Lord’s prayer before His crucifixion. Jesus knows that it is His time, for He says, “The hour is come.” Many times during His ministry He has spoken of His hour. Now it is here.

Fasting And Spiritual Discipline

“All things are lawful for me, but not all things are profitable. All things are lawful for me, but I will not be mastered by anything” (1 Cor 6:12).

When was the last time you gave up something that you liked as a form of discipline for your spiritual life? The Bible describes this as fasting. Fasting is not just a loss of appetite because you are grieving, or because you are sick. Fasting is a choice a person makes to focus on spiritual issues.
