Fasting And Spiritual Discipline

“All things are lawful for me, but not all things are profitable. All things are lawful for me, but I will not be mastered by anything” (1 Cor 6:12).

When was the last time you gave up something that you liked as a form of discipline for your spiritual life? The Bible describes this as fasting. Fasting is not just a loss of appetite because you are grieving, or because you are sick. Fasting is a choice a person makes to focus on spiritual issues.

Continuing Education

“My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge. Because you have rejected knowledge, I will also reject you from being My priest” (Hosea 4:6).
The Spirit through the writer of Hebrews admonishes the original readers of that epistle and of course everyone who hasn’t continued learning God’s word. “For though by this time you ought to be teachers, you have need again for someone to teach you the elementary principles of the oracles of God, and you have come to need milk and not solid food” (Hebrews 5:12).

Knowing One Another

Today’s Scripture: John 3:16 – “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life.”

It was simpler then. Shopping was much simpler. Going to a furniture store and making a purchase was easy. You would pay for the item, pick it up and take it home. Today a purchase may have to go to a warehouse where the item will be ordered and you can expect delivery in two weeks with a $50.00 delivery fee. It was simpler back then.
