Devotions for Life

A Birth, Marriage, Death And…

Text: “As they traveled along the road, they came to some water and the eunuch said, ‘Look, here is water. Why shouldn’t I be baptized?'” (Acts 8:36 NIV)
There are three things that greatly interest a community – a birth, a marriage and death. Unfortunately, for many these events are the only time a person is present in a church building. There are many milestones in a person’s life, and I guess one more should be added. Baptism. When you look at baptism you will discover these three milestones are used to describe the event at baptism.

Drawing The Line

“These are matters which have, to be sure, the appearance of wisdom in self-made religion and self-abasement and severe treatment of the body, but are of no value against fleshly indulgence” (Colossians 2:23 NAU).

There is a famous Hindu temple in India called Karni Mata Temple. It is also known as the Temple of Rats. There are around 20,000 rats that dwell in this temple. They are called holy rats, or Kabbas. Amazingly, people travel great distances to pay their respects, and to seek blessings from this shrine.

The Rest Of The Story

“Instruct those who are rich in this present world not to be conceited or to fix their hope on the uncertainty of riches, but upon God. . . (1 Tim. 6:17).

A relative has written a history of the family and as part of a long, and often poor dynasty, I’m still here. I want to claim it as spirituality, but the question remains, “What is the rest of the story?” Hopefully, there is to be a happy ending, something other than another painful prologue, but then doesn’t everyone?
