The Challenge

Today’s Scripture: Matthew 5:48 – “…you are to be perfect, as your heavenly Father is perfect.”
I think that it has pretty well run its course. The ice bucket challenge swept across our country like a plague, but you don’t hear about it much anymore. You didn’t need much to participate; a bucket filled with ice (the larger the better) someone to pour it over you, a towel, a change of clothes and a willingness to look undignified. But there was the challenge aspect also. You submitted to baptism by ice and challenged others to do it also.

The Passage of Time

“. . . His great mercy has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead” (1 Pet. 1:3).

It took time to realize, but I have come face to face with aging. I know Jesus arose from the dead, so I have tossed anxiety away. All the childhood castor oil and Vicks, and an adult life of vitamins hasn’t done much to keep up with others my age. What are continuing pains the doctor now advises me, “get use to it.”

Yes, Jesus Loves Me

“A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another, even as I have loved you. . . (John 13:34).
The story is told of a retired preacher in his 90’s asked to speak at his past congregation’s 60th anniversary. As he put together a sermon for one last time in their pulpit, the preacher who took his place, asked, “What was the greatest lesson you learned in your preaching days?”
