Don’t Be A Demas

Ponder: What went wrong with Demas? Could I do the same?
Scripture: “Demas has forsaken me, having loved this present world . . .” (2 Timothy 4:10a, NKJV).
Demas wasn’t always a bad guy. About A.D. 61, he was with Paul during his first Roman imprisonment. From there, he sent greetings as Paul wrote Colossians (4:14); and the apostle acknowledged him as a fellow-laborer in Philemon 24. By A.D. 67-68, during Paul’s second Roman imprisonment, the picture had changed. Demas had forsaken Paul, having loved this present world.

Jesus’ Kindness And The Fruit Of Kindness

“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness,…; against such things there is no law” (Galatians 5:22-23).
Jesus revealed God to us while He walked among mankind (John 1:14 and Hebrews 1:3a). So as we look at the fruit of the Spirit, we need to see it through Jesus’ manifestation of the fruit.

Fickle Or Faithful?

Read Luke 4:16-30
When Jesus visited His home town of Nazareth, He entered the Synagogue and was given the Scroll of the Old Testament to read. He read from Isaiah, the prophet (61:1f.), and when Jesus finished reading, He rolled it back up, gave it back to the attendant, the chazzan, and then He sat down. All eyes were fixed on Him to see what He would say. He responded, “Today this Scripture is fulfilled in yound r hearing” (Lk. 4:21).
