You Have A Part To Play

Bible Verse: “Are not two sparrows sold for a cent? And yet not one of them will fall to the ground apart from your Father” (Matt 10:29 NASU).
Sir Michael Costa (1808 – 1884), naturalized British conductor and composer, was the most celebrated British conductor of his day, being knighted for his accomplishments in 1869. Once when he was having a rehearsal with a vast array of performers, one man who played the piccolo far up in the corner stopped participating, probably thinking that his instrument among all the instruments would not be missed. Suddenly, the renowned conductor threw up his hands and all was quiet. Then he cried out, “Where is the piccolo?” The master conductor had missed it and the selection was spoiled because one man failed to carry his part.

The Word Is Not Chained

Today’s Verse: “For which (the gospel, rr) I am suffering even to the point of being chained like a criminal. But God’s word is not chained” (2 Timothy 2:9 NIV).
In the Middle Ages it was not uncommon to find the pulpit Bibles chained to the pulpits. Whether this was to prevent the common people from reading the Bible for themselves or, as some claim in defense of the practice, the production of hand written copies of the Bible were so expensive they had to prevent thieves from stealing them. In light of the persecution of those who tried to put the Bible in the common people’s hands, I believe the former is the true explanation!

Wilted Roses

Today’s Bible Verse: “As Paul discoursed on righteousness, self-control and the judgment to come, Felix was afraid and said, ‘That’s enough for now! You may leave. When I find it convenient, I will send for you'” (Acts 24:25 NIV).
A young lady was surprised one day when she received a gift of roses from a wealthy woman in town. Upon opening the box she found to her bewilderment roses that were wilted and the petals falling off. Many things went through her mind assuming, for example, that the florist had failed to deliver them on time. Later that day, she met the woman on the street and thanked her for the roses.
