Devotions for Life

“They word have I laid up in my heart, that I might not sin against thee” (Psalm 119:11).
Sunday is Grandparents Day. Ed and I have three grandchildren, two granddaughters by Ed’s son, and a grandson by my older son. They are a constant joy to us. Our granddaughters live here, and we see them every week. Our grandson lives in Ft. Worth, and we go there as often as we can. It is great fun to be with our grandchildren.

Hope In The Cross

“The Lord is my portion; therefore, I will wait for Him. The Lord is good to those whose hope is in Him, to the one who seeks Him” (Lam. 3:24, 25).
How did one maintain hope in a Russian slave labor camp of the 1940’s Russia? A religious dissident, no longer allowed reading materials or to speak, had in the past spoken out about Stalin’s regime of repression and execution.
How could there be hope in the blazing sun overhead while breaking rock, or especially the Siberian cold and snow? With escape impossible, only to be attained in the shooting of an escapee, which the prisoner would not do in his revulsion against suicide.

“Just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many” (Matthew 20:28).
Every year the congregation that I attend holds a free car wash and oil change. Minor car repairs are done. God has blessed us with several mechanics. We also provide food and fellowship for those waiting to have their cars serviced. This event is open to the community. It is not a fund raising event, and no one is charged for supplies or labor. It is a service freely done out of love.’
