Devotions for Life

Most Decorated Soldier

Text: “are wise shall shine as the brightness of the firmament; and those who turn many to righteousness as the stars for ever and ever” (Daniel 12:3).
In just a few days I will begin my annual quest on the Longest Yard Sale. The sale extends from Michigan to Alabama, a total of 690 miles. The portion that I usually drive, from Frankfort, KY to Crossville, TN, goes through Pall Mall, TN. Pall Mall is the home of Sergeant Alvin C. York, one of the most decorated soldiers in WW I.

Questions Everyone Asks

Ponder: What are the really important questions?

Scripture: “And He has made of one blood every nation of men to dwell on all the face of the earth” (Acts 17:26, NKJV).

Virtually everyone, at one time or another, asks the following questions: “Where did I come from?” “Why am I here?” “Where am I going?” Being made in God’s image, we have a built-in need to know about our origin, purpose, and destiny. Paul dealt those three questions in his sermon on the Areopagus (Mars Hill) in Acts 17.

“Are We There Yet?”

Text: “And when Jesus saw that he answered discreetly, he said unto him, Thou art not far from the kingdom of God. And no man after that durst ask him any question” (Mark 12:34).

I can remember, as a child, taking long trips with my parents. I also remember that my sister and I were continually asking, every few minutes it seems, “Are we almost there?”I suppose this is a common thing because I can remember my own children asking the same thing when we traveled. Let’s consider this question, briefly, with a spiritual application.
