Devotions for Life

“Ask And You Will Receive”

Text: “And all things, whatsoever ye shall ask in prayer, believing, ye shall receive” (Matthew 21:22).

I backed my little red convertible out of the driveway and proceeded down the street.  About a block from the house the engine died.  Even with my limited knowledge, in the field of mechanics, I managed to determine that I had a bad fuel pump.  I removed the pump and proceeded to the nearest auto parts store.

Lone Time

“Test yourselves to see if you are in the faith; examine yourselves!  Or do you not recognize this about yourselves, that Jesus Christ is in you-unless indeed you fail the test?” (II Corinthians 13:5).

Anywhere one looks, he sees that people are constantly on their cell phones, IPads, whatever.  It is like no one wants to be alone with his thoughts.  I wonder if we are afraid to be alone with our thoughts. It is though we strive to fill every waking minute with distractions.

A Heart For God

Ponder: Am I a person after God’s own heart?

Scripture “Rebuke a wise man, and he will love you” (Proverbs 9:8b, NKJV).

Scripture calls David a man after God’s own heart (Acts 13:22). David certainly had his faults. Sometimes his blunders were colossal! We might think, “I’m glad my sins aren’t as catastrophic as his!” But we would be better served by asking, “Do I have David’s repentant heart?”
