Devotions for Life

Shameless Begging

“Son of David, have mercy on me!…I want to regain my sight!” (Mark 11:47, 51).

When a blind beggar by the name of Bartimaeus heard that Jesus was passing by he cried out for mercy to receive his sight. “Many were sternly telling him to be quiet, but he kept crying all the more, ‘Son of David, have mercy on me!’ (Mark 11:48).

Be A Friend – Have A Friend

Text: “Many will say they are loyal friends, but who can find one who is truly reliable” (Proverbs 20:6)?

I read, recently, about the discovery of two bodies. Identical twin brothers were found, inside their home, in their recliners.  It is unusual that two brothers would be deceased at the same time but even more unusual is that their bodies were not discovered for about three years!

Leaning On God

“The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want” (Psalm 23:1).

Most of the first seventy-two psalms were written by David.  “Blessed is the man who makes the Lord his trust,” he wrote in Psalm 40:2.  He called on God when he was sick (Psalm 41), when he had sinned (Psalm 38), and when he needed rescued from enemies (Psalm 35). God’s help caused him to break out in a song of praise (Psalm 9).
