Devotions for Life

The Kindness Of God Leads Us To Repent

“Or do you show contempt for the riches of his kindness, tolerance and patience, not realizing that God’s kindness leads you toward repentance?” (Rom 2:4 NIV).

An atheist said to a Christian,  “How can you believe in a God with all the evil in the world?” The Christian replied, “How can you not believe in a God with all the good in the world?”
Is this just one of those situations where you can find enough evidence to convince us to believe what we want? Maybe, but I doubt it. The reason? The “CCC,” the “Civilian Conservation Corps” was an army of young volunteers and out of work farmers anxious to reclaim, rebuild and reestablish forests.

Sometimes God’s word leads you in directions you would have gone anyway. I suspect that most, if not all, who receive this devotional would never even consider murdering anybody. “You shall not murder” isn’t a big challenge for us. But what about those times when God, through His word, tells you to do something that doesn’t make sense to you? He doesn’t always clue you in as to the reason. That’s when your faith is challenged. Will you obey even when it doesn’t make sense? Bottom line: Do you trust God, or do you trust your own understanding?
