Devotions for Life

The Kindness Of God Leads Us To Repent

“Or do you show contempt for the riches of his kindness, tolerance and patience, not realizing that God’s kindness leads you toward repentance?” (Rom 2:4 NIV).
An atheist said to a Christian,  “How can you believe in a God with all the evil in the world?” The Christian replied, “How can you not believe in a God with all the good in the world?”
Is this just one of those situations where you can find enough evidence to convince us to believe what we want? Maybe, but I doubt it. The reason? I can understand a world without a god with all the evil, but without god why would there be any good at all. There’s no basis for morality. Plus, there would be no reason for anything but the survival of the fittest. The only law would be the law of the jungle.

“Christian Conservation Corps”

“But you, be sober in all things endure hardship, do the work of an evangelist, fulfill your ministry” (2 Tim. 4:5).
A Great Depression began in 1929 with the fall on Wall Street and was quickly followed by the “Dust Bowl” of the central states in the early 1930’s. The federal government acted to alleviate the loss of farmland, crops, settlers and their homes. The “CCC,” the “Civilian Conservation Corps” was an army of young volunteers and out of work farmers anxious to reclaim, rebuild and reestablish forests.

At Your Word

Ponder: Obeying God even when it doesn’t make sense.
Scripture: “Master, we have toiled all night and caught nothing; nevertheless, at Your word I will let down the net” (Luke 5:5, NKJV).
Sometimes God’s word leads you in directions you would have gone anyway. I suspect that most, if not all, who receive this devotional would never even consider murdering anybody. “You shall not murder” isn’t a big challenge for us. But what about those times when God, through His word, tells you to do something that doesn’t make sense to you? He doesn’t always clue you in as to the reason. That’s when your faith is challenged. Will you obey even when it doesn’t make sense? Bottom line: Do you trust God, or do you trust your own understanding?
