Leaning On God

“The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want” (Psalm 23:1).

Most of the first seventy-two psalms were written by David.  “Blessed is the man who makes the Lord his trust,” he wrote in Psalm 40:2.  He called on God when he was sick (Psalm 41), when he had sinned (Psalm 38), and when he needed rescued from enemies (Psalm 35). God’s help caused him to break out in a song of praise (Psalm 9).

“But I’ve Already Been Baptized” Part 3

Scripture: “Repent, and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins” (Acts 2:38 NKJV).

Yesterday’s devotional discussed “infant baptism,” concluding that infants are not proper subjects of baptism, even if it is correctly administered as immersion. Now consider the vital question of motive as it relates to valid baptism.

“But I’ve Already Been Baptized” Part 2

Scripture: “Buried with Him in baptism, in which you also were raised with Him through faith in the working of God Who raised Him from the dead” (Colossians 2:12-13 NKJV).

Yesterday’s devotional exhorted everyone to recognize and to act upon the importance of being baptized as the New Testament teaches. Many respond to such a plea with the assurance that “I’ve already been baptized.” Most professing “Christian” religions practice some kind of baptism. Unfortunately, not all of these match the “one baptism” that is valid today (Ephesians 4:5).
