Devotions for Life

My Pound Of Flesh

Text: “For the mind set on the flesh is death, but the mind set on the Spirit is life and peace” (Romans 8:6 NASV).

There is an expression, “I want my pound of flesh.” This means that someone owes you something and you demand it of them even though you do not need it and it will cause problems for the other person.

Cain Or Abel?

“But if you do not do what is right, sin is crouching at your door; it desires to have you, but you must master it” (Genesis 4:7).

We do not know why Cain’s sacrifice was not pleasing to God.  Perhaps Cain did not give the best of his crops.  Maybe he gave grudgingly.  Whatever the case, Cain did not please God in his giving.  God had warned Cain that sin was right at his door waiting to get him.  Evidently, Cain didn’t care, for he killed his brother in jealousy.  Perhaps he had been planning his revenge on Abel for some time.

Are Your Growing In Reverence And Love For God?

“The conclusion, when all has been heard, is: fear God and keep His commandments, because this applies to every person” (Ecclesiastes 12:13).

Solomon asked himself two questions: 1) How am I using my life? 2) What is the purpose of my life? After trying every human endeavor, he concluded that fearing or revering God and serving Him was the true purpose for everyone.
