Surveying The Cross

“As for me, however, I will boast only about the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ; for by means of his cross the world is dead to me, and I am dead to the world” (Gal 6:14–GNB).

“When I survey the wondrous cross On which the prince of glory died,

My richest gain I count but loss And pour contempt on all my pride.

Were the whole realm of nature mine, That were a present far too small

Love so amazing, so divine, Demands my soul, my life, my all.” – (Isaac Watts)

My Pound Of Flesh

Text: “For the mind set on the flesh is death, but the mind set on the Spirit is life and peace” (Romans 8:6 NASV).

There is an expression, “I want my pound of flesh.” This means that someone owes you something and you demand it of them even though you do not need it and it will cause problems for the other person.

Cain Or Abel?

“But if you do not do what is right, sin is crouching at your door; it desires to have you, but you must master it” (Genesis 4:7).

We do not know why Cain’s sacrifice was not pleasing to God.  Perhaps Cain did not give the best of his crops.  Maybe he gave grudgingly.  Whatever the case, Cain did not please God in his giving.  God had warned Cain that sin was right at his door waiting to get him.  Evidently, Cain didn’t care, for he killed his brother in jealousy.  Perhaps he had been planning his revenge on Abel for some time.
