Devotions for Life

“Let There Be Light”

Text: “The night is almost over, it will be daylight soon; let us give up the things we prefer to do under cover of the dark; let us arm ourselves and appear in the light” (Rom 13:12).

My friend works for a power company. Recently, during a winter storm, there was a power outage, and several thousand people were without power. Soon the calls were pouring in. Naturally everyone wanted heat but, as my friend told it, “Everyone wanted LIGHTS!”

Inexcusable Enemies

“Father, forgive them” (Lk. 23:34).

How do we forgive when government workers brazenly work for their own self interest, when terrorists kill the innocent without remorse and the public applauds those guilty of murderous revenge? Where are the Christians who forgive seventy times seven?

Memorial Observances

Ponder: “Memorial Day”

Scripture: “Do this in remembrance of Me” (1 Corinthians 11:24, 25, NKJV).

I recommend that you attend a Memorial Day service at the military section of a cemetery this Memorial Day – especially if you have not done so recently. The grave markers, speeches, and music will remind you that freedom isn’t free. Untold thousands have paid with their very lives.
