Devotions for Life

Don’t Forget

“For you have forgotten the God of your salvation And have not remembered the rock of your refuge” (Isaiah 17:10 NAU).

One of the curses of humanity is the common flaw of forgetfulness. Most of this is due to no fault of our own. Memory begins to let us down as we age. Medication also exacerbates the problem. My cousin recently passed away at the age of 63. She suffered with Alzheimer’s for two years.

God Has A Plan

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not upon your own understanding” (Proverbs 3:5).

It is so hard to see past our own understanding. Abraham and Sarah could not.  They waited a long time for the son God had promised them.  Finally, they gave up on God and conceived their own plan.  Abraham had a son by Hagar.  But that was not God’s plan, and it only led to heartache.

How To Influence The World

“By this all men will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another” (John 13:35).

There is an old saying, “I would rather see a sermon than hear one.” How we are seen is important, especially in regards to reaching non-believers. Sermons are just words to people of the world. To the believer, sermons and Bible classes are important for encouragement, building up of knowledge, and changing our lives to becoming more like Jesus. For the worldly minded, seeing is more powerful than hearing.
