“They Know Not”

 

“Father, forgive them, they know not what they do” (Lk. 23:43).

Jesus’ prayer from the cross while enduring excruciating pain and torment, both physical and mental, was in the concern for the souls of others.How can we forget it? As for me, it became a part of a poem written for my high school newspaper in 1942 before being call to the Navy for W.W.II.

Hungry?

 

“For Christ’s love compels us, because we are convinced that one died for all, and therefore all died” (2 Cor 5:14 NIV).

Recently, in an eating contest, ironically, a 125 young woman, mother of four, broke the record by eating two 72 ounce steaks in less than ten minutes! What kind of society have we created that rewards gluttony? Actually, eating the meat was not because of a desire for food, but the desire for honor and praise for eating more than anyone else in the least amount of time!

Burdens

 

“Bear one another’s burdens, and thereby fulfill the law of Christ” (Galatians 6:2). 

Burdens. We all have them. We misunderstand what bearing our burdens means or what scriptures apply. We think of our burdens as our cross that we have to bear. Yet, when Jesus talked about taking up our cross, He applied it to denying ourselves (Luke 9:23-24).
