God Sees It All

Bible Verse for Today: “The eyes of the Lord are in every place, keeping watch upon the evil and the good” (Proverbs 15:3).

At times it seems that those who have no regard for God prosper. They have wealth, material goods, and the best of life. Or so it can seem to those of us who are on the outside looking in. But the Lord sees both sides of the picture. God knows the wicked, and He knows the good. He sees it all.

David paints pictures of the wicked in the Psalms. The wicked have no fear of God and flatter themselves in their own eyes. The words of their mouths are iniquity and deceit. They stop being wise and doing good, and they lie in their beds at night devising wicked plans (36:1-4). They plot against the just and gnash against them (37:12). God tells us not to envy the wicked or get upset because of them (37:1). He laughs at the wicked and will cut them off (37:9, 13).
The good delight themselves in the Lord and trust in Him (37:4). God will make their righteousness go forth as the light, and their justice as the noonday (37:6). Those who wait for the Lord shall inherit the land (37:9). The Lord upholds them, and their inheritance shall be forever (37:17, 18). The law of their God is in their hearts, and none of their steps shall slide (37:31).
God takes care of the righteous. He is their stronghold in the time of trouble and rescues them from the wicked (37:39, 40). David says, “I have been young, and now am old; yet I have not seen the righteous forsaken, nor his seed begging for bread” (Psalm 37:25). God sees everything, and He takes care of the righteous.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, we thank You for Your constant care and watching over us. We pray that we will never leave Your fellowship. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

After Escaping

Today’s Bible Passage: “For if, after they have escaped the defilements of the world by the knowledge of the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, they are again entangled in them and are overcome, the last state has become worse for them than the first. For it would be better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than having known it, to turn away from the holy commandment handed on to them” (II Peter 2:20-21).
Notice that Peter said it would have been better for one not to have obeyed the gospel and become a Christian than to have become a Christian and then turn his/her back on what he or she had learned and returned to the old way of life. Yet, so many Christians do just that – they become unfaithful.

Popular Choices

Today’s Bible Verse: “You shall know the truth and the truth shall set you free” (Jn. 8:32)
Most of us have our popular choices, such as a car mechanic, a hair stylist, and of course, a popular singer. Those in the music category often speak of “Elvis,” so much so that there are groups who worship him as a god who is seen around from time to time. My choice seems to be among doctors, none of whom I worship, but manage to tolerate as unsuccessful.
But as an old time comedian once said, “I have a considerate doctor. If I can’t afford an operation, he touches up the x-rays!” As a short term alternative to the truth, the practice of changing x-rays will not save lives, no more than changing the Lord’s commands will save souls.

The practice of seeking churches and leaders who make the image of Christ easier by ignoring the “one way” carries such messages as “If yo look for church unity at any price, just stay with us,” or “Those forbidden acts will continue to be forgiven, so have a ball.”

It is possible to fix x-rays, or whitewash sin, or brainwash the unlearned in the Word, but it is not cleansing. Any attempt to “Spenda-sweeten Satan” will bring only bitterness because Christian lives are rightly sweetened with truth. Which recalls to us that Paul said to the sorcerer in Acts 13:10, “Will you not cease to make crooked the straight ways of the Lord?”

Hymn: “Sweet Will Of God”

Holy Father, may we be ever mindful of where the truth lies, that the ways of life on this earth are tainted with falsehoods and cover ups. Help us behold the truth and display it in full trust, and then fully engage that truth while we employ the faith of those who follow in Your ways. In the Lord’s name. Amen.
