Devotions for Life

“No One Hired Us”

“And about the eleventh hour he went out, and found others standing; and he saith unto them, Why stand ye here all the day idle?   They say unto him, Because no man hath hired us. He saith unto them, Go ye also into the vineyard” (Matthew 20:6-7).
Most cities, of any size, have a “labor pool” where would be workers stand around, pooled together, waiting for someone to come along and hire them.  Such was the case as discussed by Jesus in Matthew chapter 20.  There were men who were willing to work but, in their words, “No One Hired Us.”  Some who enter the kingdom are “on fire” right away.  For others, it takes longer for them to get started.

“I Am Willing, Be Cleansed”

Ponder: The ability and willingness of Jesus
Scripture: “Lord, if You are willing, You can make me clean” (Luke 5:12b, NKJV).
Many varieties of leprosy affected people in ancient times. Some were more dangerous than others. In certain cases, leprosy was a virtual death sentence. That appears to have been true of the man in Luke 5:12 whom the beloved physician described as “full of leprosy.”

Beyond The Sunset

“God is not unjust; he will not forget your work and the love you have shown him as you have helped his people and continue to help them”
(Heb 6:10 NIV).
A brother in Christ from Nashville (now deceased) once shared with me an incredible experience from his childhood.  While growing up in Indiana, he and his parents periodically spent evenings with another Christian couple.  During one visit, one of the adults sat down at a piano and began “pecking out” a melody while the others suggested words.
