Our Comforting God

“The Father of mercies and God of all comfort; who comforts us in all our affliction (II Cor. 1:3b, 4).

Fanny J. Crosby, the author of many of our beautiful hymns, was not born blind. When she was an infant, a man claiming to be a doctor put hot poultices on her eyes. The resulting scarring left her unable to see. As an adult, she declared that God had given her a special “soul vision” that enabled her to put her faith into song. Her spiritual vision helped her write such wonderful hymns as “All the Way My Savior Leads Me.”


Gussied up for God

Text: “Adorn yourself with eminence and dignity; and clothe yourself with honor and majesty” (Job 40:10).

I am thinking back on a time when one of our church members referred to my wife as being “gussied up.” When that term was used, directed toward my wife, my immediate thought was, “She is gussied up for God.””Gussied up” is an old expression meaning to dress, or adorn, or to decorate elaborately.


Christ For The World

Ponder: Can we evangelize our world? Will we?

Scripture: “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature” (Mark 16:15 NKJV).

Jesus said to take His gospel to the entire world. Not everyone will respond positively; in fact, the majority will reject the Lord (Matthew 7:13, 14). Our task remains: give everyone an opportunity. The hymn, “Christ for the World,” points out three things in as many verses that will help us fulfill this divine mandate:
