Desiring To Be Spiritual

“Therefore if you have been raised up with Christ keep seeking the things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set you mind on the things above, not on the things that are on earth”  (Colossians 3:1-2.).

There are lots of people who would like to be spiritual, but they are not willing to put forth the effort to become spiritual.  They have too many lusts – things in which they are interested that pull them away from those things that are spiritual.  Many of the “things” that pull them away are not sinful in themselves, but simply a distraction.  Christians become focused on activities of the world rather than spiritual activities.  The key to spirituality is one’s mind.

Jerusalem Ridge

Text: “And Moses went up from the plains of Moab unto mount Nebo, to the top of Pisgah, that is over against Jericho. And Jehovah showed him all the land of Gilead, unto Dan, and all Naphtali, and the land of Ephraim and Manasseh, and all the land of Judah, unto the hinder sea, and the South, and the Plain of the valley of Jericho the city of palm-trees, unto Zoar. And Jehovah said unto him, This is the land which I sware unto Abraham, unto Isaac, and unto Jacob, saying, I will give it unto thy seed: I have caused thee to see it with thine eyes, but thou shalt not go over thither” (Deut. 34:1-4)

Last fall, I took a trip to Jerusalem Ridge. This is a place in the hills of Kentucky where they hold an annual Bluegrass Festival. Not only is there good music by talented musicians, but the setting is a beautiful place that only God could create. Of course, I had a very limited view of a much larger area of His creation.

Walking In The Spirit

Today’s Scripture – Galatians 5:16 – “…Walk by the Spirit and you will not carry out the desire of the flesh.

Even though Paul says we should “…walk in the Spirit..” I would suggest that much of our lives are spend muddling through life instead of walking. Did you know that “muddling through” is defined as “to succeed (frequently in a clumsy fashion) despite being ill-equipped or untrained?” I think that describes much of the reality we face in life.
