Kindness Works

May 20, 2012 “Parade” magazine in the Denver Post had an excellent article entitled “Kindness Works” written by Colin Powell and comes from his book, “It Worked for Me.” Below is a little summary of the article.

Powell stated that many years ago the closing statement of a sermon was “Always show more kindness than
seems necessary, because the person receiving it needs it more than you will ever know.” That statement
stuck with Mr. Powell who then related this account from his life.

Life Today As If It Were Our Last

“For the grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation to all men, instructing us to deny ungodliness and worldly desires and to live sensibly, righteously and godly in the present age,
(Titus 2:11-12 NASU).

A tragic accident occurred Monday at a nearby beach. A man was baptized in the ocean with his family
looking on. As he was being congratulated a wave hit the man and the undertow pulled him under. His body
has not yet been found.

“Been There, Done That”

“Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother. . . found first his brother, Simon and said, ‘We have found the Messiah'” (Jn. 1:40-42).

The introduction seems to let us know the young man called, “the first missionary,” is to play a lesser role to his brother, Peter, in all 13 scriptures in which he is mentioned. For that reason alone, I have found him close to my own character, not that he failed, but acceptance in playing second fiddle.
