Devotions for Life

“As Many Had Need”

“And they sold their possessions and goods, and parted them to all, according as any man had need” (Acts 2:45).

Three thousand souls celebrated their new-found salvation. They stayed together and fed on the apostles’ teaching and fellowship. They feared and wondered at the signs and miracles done by the apostles. They worshiped together and ate together. They found favor with all the people. And they grew day by day.

The Counter Assault Team

Ponder: Our individual and collective responsibility

Scripture: “Be sober; be vigilant; because your adversary, the devil, walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour” (1 Peter 5:8 NKJV).

On Wednesday, March 26, three Secret Service agents assigned to the President were sent home from the Netherlands. One had been drunk at their motel, and the other two did nothing about it; so all three were culpable. The President was scheduled to arrive the next day. The three were part of a counter-assault team. In the event that the President were attacked, the team would engage the assailants while the President was whisked away to safety.

“Abstain from every form of evil” (1 Thess 5:22).

“Evil” that is the word that Austin Sigg used to describe his own actions in sexually assaulting, strangling, and dismembering Jessica Ridgeway (The Denver Post,  “Sentenced to life” by Jordan Steffen Wednesday, November 20, 2013).
