Devotions for Life

One Size Fits All

“Therefore, take up the full armor of God, so that you will be able to resist in the evil day, and having done everything, to stand firm” (Ephesians 6:13).

One of the things I dislike about shopping is the trying on of clothes. Why can’t there be an international standard of clothing sizes? Instead, I need a large in this, in that an extra-large and in something else an extra-extra-large. I like the things you don’t have to try on. Things like toboggans, caps, and ponchos, which are simply “one size fits all.”

Habakkuk had numerous low points in his work as a prophet of God. Many of those low points came from not understanding God. He struggled with what he thought was contrary to God’s holiness. But he concludes his book on a high point. “The Lord God is my strength, and He has made

Are Church Services Of Vital Importance?

“. . . Not forsaking our own assembling together, as is the habit of some, by encouraging one another, and all the more, as you see the day approaching” (Hebrews 10:25).

My friend, Dr. Stacy Harmon, and I were discussing the importance of attending services the other day.  He shared a relevant illustration.  In the US, a police officer may serve for thirty five years without ever pulling his gun on duty.  Yet, he has to constantly go through training to prepare for the possibility of having to use it.  Many who do not attend services fail to see the importance of attending Bible classes and worship because they do not see how worship and the study of the Bible with other Christians prepare them for life’s unforeseeable events.
