Devotions for Life

Bible Verse for Today: “In nothing be anxious; but in everything by prayer and supplication with
thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God” (Philippians 4:6).
A friend recently told me, “I am becoming unraveled thread by thread.” She then listed all of the troubles that had come into her life. Her husband left her and married someone else, she developed
a life-threatening illness, and her only son died at the age of 25. Then she lost her house to
foreclosure. She felt that she had lost everything important in her life.

Needed: More Ezra

Ponder: Seeking, doing, and teaching the word of God.
Scripture: “For Ezra had prepared his heart to seek the Law of the Lord, and to do it, and to
teach statutes and ordinances in Israel” (Ezra 7:10, NKJV).
Over 2400 years ago, Ezra emerged as a leader among the Jews. Being both a scribe and a
priest (Ezra 7:11), serving the Lord was no mere ritual to him. He had prepared his heart
to seek, do and teach God’s law.

Never Take Revenge

Today’s Verse: “Never take your own revenge” Romans 12:19.
How are we able to avoid taking revenge? According to human thinking David had
reasons to take revenge against Saul, but he did not. What kept him from taking
revenge are the same reasons we can use to avoid taking revenge.
