Angel Teaching

“For this very night an angel of God to whom I belong and whom I serve stood before me” (Acts 27:33).

At this moment, thousands of preachers are studying and preparing lessons for the next worship service, depending on the word of God, the example of Christ and those chosen men who began preaching upon learning of the death and resurrection of our Lord, Jesus. Ever wonder about their sermons, how powerful they were and what they used other than their personal knowledge of the Savior? Could they have been more powerful in their assigned actions than an angel, Gabriel?

An angel appeared to Cornelius without explaining the plan of salvation, merely stating, “Send to Joppa and call for Simon, whose surname is Peter” (Acts 10:5). Philip was instructed by an angel, “God and join yourself to the chariot of the eunuch” (Acts 8:26-27), and I ask myself, “Why didn’t the angels save time and go and teach others themselves?”

Why didn’t the chosen angel warn the crew on that ship, instead, instead of appearing to Paul in a vision? Why are no angels in the New Testament ever given the privilege of sharing the news of Jesus Christ, or of how grace saves, or the love that God has shown for all mankind?

It appears that God chose to move the angels back from such presentations and to move you and me to the front, for when it comes to sin and falling away and being saved, who knows such things better, the sinless angels, or the experienced of the world? To herald the Lord was the work of the angel messenger, but it is the disciples who must proclaim God’s word with the voices of followers!

Hymn: “Angels We Have Heard On High”

Holy Father, we accept the challenge presented to us in preaching Your Word, knowing that what we speak should be truly from You. May those spiritual messengers of the past continue to be with us, guiding and protecting human activity on Your behalf. In His precious name, Amen.

Keep On Knocking

“Holding forth the word of light” (Philippians 2:16).

A man had a neighbor who was constantly bothering him by knocking on his door and telling him that he was going to perish if he did not seek Jesus and obey Him. The man knew he wasn’t right with God, but he didn’t think his sins were that bad. He told his neighbor to never knock on his door again. However, he soon became engaged in “bigger” sins, and his life took a downward spiral.

The Value of a Father

“And you fathers, provoke not your children to wrath: but nurture them in the chastening and the admonition of the Lord” (Ephesians 6:4).

The website fatherhood.org says that according to the U. S. Census Bureau, 24 million children in the U. S. live in homes where no biological father is present. According to this website’s statistics, the absence of fathers has a huge direct causal effect on children’s poverty rate, their health, and their later involvement in crime, incarceration, teen pregnancy, drug and alcohol abuse, as well as dropping out of school.
