Devotions for Life

Endure suffering along with me, as a good soldier of Christ Jesus.

2 Timothy 2:3, NLT

Imagine for a moment that you are a Roman soldier,

assigned to duty in Caesar’s prison system, guarding

the notorious troublemaker Saul of Tarsus (also known
as Paul). Day after day you stand your post as Paul paces
back and forth in his dingy cell, dictating passionate
letters to friends and strangers. He’s not composing
legal briefs. He’s not contacting his defense team.

A Priceless Recovery

2 Chronicles 34:14-21
While they were bringing out the money collected
at the LORD’s Temple, Hilkiah the priest found
the Book of the Law of the LORD that was written
by Moses. Hilkiah said to Shaphan the court secretary,
“I have found the Book of the Law in the LORD’s
Temple!” Then Hilkiah gave the scroll to Shaphan.

What Is Your Authority?

“All Authority is given to me in heaven and on earth” (Mt. 28:18)

“Authority” is “power to influence or command thought, opinion, or behavior.” In Greek, the word emphasizes the power to enforce one’s will. Jesus said He has “all” authority in heaven and earth. Whatever the apostles “bound or loosed” (Mt. 16:19; 18:18), it was whatever Christ had already bound or loosed. He made the rules!
