Hiding In Plain Sight

“Oly, Oly Oxen Free.” “Ready or not, here I come.” These are a couple of phrases
that are associated with children’s games like kick the can, hide and seek, and others
that you and I probably played when we were children. Sometimes one of the kiddos
would be creative enough to hide in plain sight. And the person who was “it” would
search all over and walk right past the person who was hiding in plain sight.
We’ve seen many pictures that depict a truism that has been with us for many years.
A person can stand in front of a light, whether it’s a sunset or sunrise or light pouring
out of the doorway in which that person is standing, and all everybody else sees is a

I am Only Human

“If we say that we have no sin, we are deceiving ourselves and the truth is not in us”
(I John 1:8).
How many times have you heard or said, “I’m only human”? Countless times,
I am sure. The problem with those three little words is that we use them to excuse
our sins. We have a tendency to make little of our sins. “Oh, I made a mistake”
or “No big deal, everyone does it.” What is just as bad when we sin and no one
catches us is that we dismiss the fact that God saw our sin.
We live in a culture where it seems that accountability has become politically incorrect.
Mainstream Christianity has changed. “Are we to continue in sin so that grace may increase?
May it never be!” (Romans 6:1b-2a). Some think that verse reads, “But of course! God is only love.”
“But, I am human and therefore I will sin. God made me this way. Its only human.”
These are Satan’s lies that have been universally accepted. We were created in God’s
image; therefore, we should strive to be like our heavenly Father. Instead we behave
like our father is Satan. It is human to be like our heavenly Father, not like Satan.
Jesus came down to earth to be the atonement for us so that we can be forgiven.
He also came down to demonstrate what a life created in God’s image looks like.
We must look to Jesus as we go through life.
Never forget God’s promises, especially “If we confess our sins, He is faithful
and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness”
(I John 1:9).
Song: “Yield Not to Temptation”
My Father, there are times that I need a wake-up call to remember in whose image I was created and what being human really means. Help me to strive to be honest with You, Father, and with myself and call sin, sin. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Pleasure or Frustration

The computer can be a serious source of extreme frustration. This morning I have tried to download a couple of documents and have not been able to get that accomplished. After some serious wait time, a box appears on my screen that says, “This webpage is not responding. Would you like to wait, or kill it?  “Eventually I will simply give up altogether or move my laptop to a location where I can plug in an Ethernet cable. My goal is to get the sought-after webpage to respond to my request.”
