Devotions for Life

Group Numbing

“You shall not follow a multitude in doing evil” (Ex 23:2).

Herd Behavior; mob mentality; group numbing. The term “mob mentality” is used to refer to unique behavioral characteristics that emerge when people are in groups. In other words, the group takes on a personality of its own, and people will do things they would not otherwise do if they were alone.

God’s Friend

“But you, Israel, My servant, Jacob whom I have chosen, descendant of Abraham My friend” (Isaiah 41:8). “You are My friends if you do what I command you” (John 15:14).

Abraham is God’s friend, and Jesus calls us friend. There is a condition attached. God and Jesus expect us to be obedient. God isn’t just a friend and shouldn’t be treated with familiarity like we treat our human friends. God is our Creator, Lord, Redeemer, and God. Therefore, while belief and obedience make us His friends, there must be reverence and respect for Him.

I Didn’t Mean To Do It

“If anyone shall sin unwittingly, in any of the things which the Lord commands not to be done…” (Leviticus 4:2).

“I didn’t mean to do it.” How many times have we said it? From the time we were three years old and broke something (by accident), we say it. You would think by the time we become adults, we would know not to sin. But we don’t. Satan has a way of creeping up on us, tricking us, beguiling us. He can make us reason ourselves into thinking that what we’re doing isn’t wrong.
