The Peace of God

“And the peace of God, which passes all understanding, shall guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus” (Philippians 4:6).

The above verse is very familiar to most of us. It is so familiar that we usually don’t stop to think about it. Ask yourself this question: Which of God’s spiritual blessings would you miss the most? My guess is that it would be His peace.

Everyone Will Know

Today’s Reading – John 13: 35 “. . . love one another. By this all men will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another.”
My mother was quite proficient with the typewriter. There was a distinct tap-tap-tap as her fingers seemed to blaze across the key board. Even when the typewriter industry went electric there was still that physical connection between the keys and her fingers.  Then came the computer. The key board has been altered slightly but the letters and numbers are in the same place and there is still that tap-tap-tap sound.

May I Have A Word with You?

1 Th. 5:6b “Let us be alert and sober”

The word for “sober” originally meant “not intoxicated”. But it became a figure of speech to indicate a sober minded attitude, a life of moderation and self-control.
The imperative “Let us be sober” is not a plea as the English appears to indicate, but a commandment. It can be translated “Be alert and sober.” Do it or else!
