“It Is Well With Your Soul”

Acts 22:16 “And now why tarriest thou? arise and be baptized, and wash away thy sins, calling on the name of the Lord.

Recently while driving past a local mall, I saw a sign someone had erected that asked the question: “Have you washed your soul?” As I thought about that question, my thoughts turned to a grand old song that is often sung: “Is it well with your soul?” “Mid the toil and strife of this busy life, is it well with your soul? Are you living right, should you die tonight? Is it well with your soul?” All of us must understand that when we shed this earthly frame, our eternal destiny is forever sealed, The loss of our soul cannot be reversed after we die! (Luke 16:19-26, Eccl. 9:10).

The Light Of His Presence

Today’s Bible Verse: “Let your light shine before men in such a way that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven” (Matthew 5:16).

It’s a simple thing to rationalize even while accepting and applying the words and examples of Jesus and His followers to our own lives. For instance, for dads, with long hours on the job, assisting with housework, and being a father to the kids, meeting together with our brothers and sisters in Christ on Sundays or on days off, or at the other times when assembly is scheduled, is too difficult. Will our not being there really make that kind of difference? Such things, they may say, seem to run pretty smoothly without us?

Human Lobsters

Today’s Bible Verse: “Strive to enter in by the narrow door: for many, I say unto you, shall seek
to enter in, and shall not be able” (Luke 13:24 ASV).
Have you ever read the following little story about human lobsters from Dr. Orrison Swett Marden (1850-1924)?  I’ve seen his illustration used from time to time in various books and articles to describe a truism about human nature.
