Devotions for Life

“Not one of the good promises which the Lord had made to the house of Israel failed; all came to pass” (Joshua 21:45).

Can you say that of promises you have made or of promises made to you? The hard truth is that at times we all have failed to keep the promises that we have made.

Yes We Can Do It!

“I can do all things through Him who strengthens me” (Phil. 4:13).

A while back our Maltese hurt her back leg. She limped around for weeks, but it finally healed. During the healing period, she stopped jumping on things. After she healed she started jumping on the recliner, but more hesitant to jump on the couch. She lost most of her confidence. She would just about jump and then stop. She would struggle to get the courage to jump, and often would turn to look for help.

The Bible and the Constitution

Ponder: Does Scripture still mean what it meant when it was written?

Scripture: “Do not add to His words, lest He rebuke you, and you be found a liar” (Proverbs 30:6, NKJV).

Associate Justice Antonin Scalia’s recent death has prompted vigorous discussion of his judicial philosophy known as originalism. Justice Scalia asked what the words of the Constitution meant to the people who wrote them. He held that the tenets of the Constitution must be applied faithfully, without regard to the personal feelings or opinions of the Justices. He understood that judges are not legislators; the judge’s job is to apply the law, not make it.
