Devotions for Life

An Old Hotel

“And there is no creature that is not manifest in his sight: but all things are naked and laid open before the eyes of him with whom we have to do” (Hebrews 4:13).

The six-story historical hotel was decked with Christmas finery. Outside, the front of the building, the bushes and trees, and every light pole shined with lights of various colors. Life-size angels hung over its porch and steps. At night, the front and outside took your breath away. Inside, large decorated trees, lights, Santas, snowmen, and teddy bears filled the foyer and hallways. Decorated Christmas scenes and trees took center stage in every banquet room and convention center. Indeed, she was a grand old lady, beautiful to see.

“Religion I hold to be essential to morals” (John Adams to Benjamin Rush, 18 April 1808).

Where do morals come from? Atheists would have you believe that people got together and came up with a code of moral behavior over time. Bear with me. Suppose atheists are right and evolution is
the answer to life. Evolution proclaims the survival of the fittest or strongest.

Salvation By Grace, 7

“And working together with Him, we also urge you not to receive the grace of God in vain” (2 Cor 6:1)
I want to summarize the previous six devotionals on grace and add a few closing thoughts.Grace isn’t something we should take lightly. Grace is only possible if God’s justice is upheld. Without the death
of Christ, our salvation would be impossible. God would not uphold His justice or holiness if he
forgave sin without Jesus’ sacrifice. Nothing we can do will make God indebted to us. God owes us nothing.
